Every girl’s favorite P-word: Pinterest.

I know, I know, cue the angelic singing with a tiny stream of white light shining through a break in the clouds.  You know it, you love it, you pin all of it.

And wedding planning pinning?  HECK YES.  This is what dreams are made of!  Really, Pinterest can absolutely help you plan your dream wedding.  But, at the same time, it can also wreak just a little bit of havoc on your mental state while doing so.  If you’re anything like me, you love scrolling through all the pretty pins and saving all the beautiful flower arrangements, bridal poses, and dramatic venue decor.  Except, after doing so, you can sometimes feel lost in all of the options.  They’re just all SO GOOD.

Okay, so how much pinning is too much pinning?  There used to be a time when I would immediately yell out, “The limit does not exist!”  But now, not so much.  Because you actually CAN have too much of a good thing.  Anyone who disagrees with me, when was the last time that you finished a whole tub of cookie dough, or a whole batch of brownies all by yourself?  Now tell me, did that good thing feel good after that?  Probs not.

You might be thinking now, “Okay, so then how DO we use Pinterest?  *Please tell me we still get to use Pinterest!?*”  Yes, calm yourself.  Of course, we’re going to use Pinterest!  But, we’re going to be methodical about it.

Use pins for inspiration.  Use pins for decor ideas.  Use pins for DIY projects.  And use pins to help direct and refine your vision.  Just don’t be all willy nilly with them.

In the beginning stages of your planning process, pin everything.  I’m serious.  Hop on Pinterest, create a wedding board (if you don’t already have one) and pin to your little heart’s desire.  After a while, take a glance over your wedding board and try to find similar themes, decorations, hairstyles, etc. that reappear in more than one pin or image.  Then, create a separate “My Wedding” board and move those like-styled pins over to it.  With them, move only your very favorite pins over to your new “My Wedding” board.  I’m willing to bet though that your favorite pins are most of those that you noticed having a similar style and have already moved over.  After you’ve gone through your larger wedding board and narrowed it down to your recurring themes, styles, and absolutely favorites, you end up with a personalized, curated Pinterest board that was designed specifically for you and your wedding.  You go from thousands of pins, all pulling you in every direction, to under 100 that are now all pointing you in the true, right direction.

This, ladies, is how we team up with Pinterest to create the wedding of our dreams.  It’s an unbelievable tool that we get to use!  Just make sure that your pinning narrows down your vision instead of scattering it with chaos.

IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE- Once you have planned your wedding and all is said and done- delete your boards and stop pinning wedding things.  There is absolutely no reason why you should subject yourself to the possibility of the comparison devil hopping up on your shoulder and trying to make you doubt that you put together the absolute best wedding day for you and your groom.  Don’t give him any foothold!  Comparison is truly the thief of joy.  Let yourself dream and create while planning; and once it’s completed, let yourself rest in confident peace that everything was done perfectly, with you and your groom in mind.
